Guttering in Southampton
Southampton receives significant annual rainfall, with wet south-westerly weather systems arriving regularly from the Channel. A working guttering system is not optional in this climate — blocked or leaking gutters allow water to saturate fascias, soffits and the tops of walls, causing rot and damp that is far more expensive to fix than the gutter repair itself.
Guttering Repairs
Most guttering problems are caused by blocked downpipes, cracked or split sections, or joints that have opened up over time. We clear blockages, reseal leaking joints, replace cracked sections and refix sagging gutter runs. In most cases a repair visit resolves the issue with no need for full replacement.
Guttering Replacement
UPVC guttering in good condition lasts 20 to 25 years. When sections have become brittle, are sagging on failed brackets, or where downpipes have cracked below ground level, a full replacement is the right call. We use quality half-round UPVC in standard white, black or brown, and can supply cast iron profiles for period properties in Bassett, Highfield and other conservation areas.
Guttering on Southampton's Victorian Stock
The Victorian terraces in Portswood, Bevois Valley and St Denys were built with cast iron guttering. Many still have original sections that have been painted over multiple times. Where cast iron is failing, we either repair the existing system or replace with appropriate profiles. We do not install white UPVC on period Victorian frontages.
