Fascia and soffit work runs from scaffold or towers along the eaves, itemised in the quote; two-storey runs need a modest scaffold. Scaffold is specified for: two-storey eaves and full roofline runs needing safe standing time - always itemised in your written quote, never a hidden extra, and we arrange it.

Southampton’s Victorian terraces off Portswood and in Bevois Valley often have no side access, so repairs there need pavement scaffold and a council permit rather than a ladder. Pavement scaffold and skip permits go through Southampton City Council; allow a few working days on streets like Bevois Valley Road, Portswood Road, the terraced streets off Northam Road where space is tight.

Roofline work runs year-round; only sustained high winds stop work at the eaves. Southampton’s position at the head of Southampton Water brings humid, salt-influenced air and south-westerly Solent gales that drive weather onto exposed roofs.

Across Southampton the roofline is often the first thing to fail on 1930s stock, long before the tiles need attention. The original softwood fascias fitted to the city’s interwar semis in Bitterne, Sholing and Shirley were painted rather than capped, and decades of salt-laden air off Southampton Water have left many soft at the ends where the gutter joints leak. When we replace a roofline we take the chance to correct the ventilation at the same time: older Southampton roofs were built with little or no eaves airflow, which is why so many lofts here show condensation on the cold underside of the felt. A vented soffit fitted during the roofline job solves that for the cost of the vents alone, and it is far cheaper done now than as a separate visit later.
